Pigot's 1830 Directory of Gloucestershire

Cheltenham Pages

These pages give a flavour of the type of information contained in a county directory. I have chosen the town of Cheltenham in 1830 as being representative of a small town in the period, and have included all of the pages for this town. Directories give an immense amount of information useful to family historians. Not only may they contain your family members, but they also give a considerable amount of background information relating to the places where your family lived.

They are primary sources of information, and as such, I have chosen to scan the original pages and display them rather than transcribe them, and hence devalue them and relegate them to secondary sources.

Please note that these pages are quite large in file size, and take a few moments to fully display on the Internet, although of course, when viewed as a CD book, the pages display instantly. These pages are at a reduced resolution than on the CD Book of the directory.

These pages are scans of the original book of 1830.
Directories for many more counties, and for different periods are available on CD - see Books On CD
