Archiev CD Books Netherlands - Boek op CD
In the summer of 2003 we started, in co-operation with "Archive CD
Books", with building up an organisation and a Dutch-language
collection.
Soon after we started, it became clear, that the name "Archive CD Books"
in the Netherlands could lead to confusion.
Therefore we decided to change the name to "BoekopCD".
We have been working very hard to
- make contacts with archives
- search for rare, interesting and old books
- scanning books and making them searchable
- generate our own "EasyAccess" Internet site
- design a user friendly web-shop, with an "open-source" mind
The results can be seen on http://www.boekopcd.nl
Our first presentation was on Saturday February 14th.
For the "Old Apeldoorn Association" we gave a demonstration of the
historical address book CD's, called "Erica".
There are 10 CD's (each containing four books) and are priced at just
9.95 each (Euros).
All residents living in the municipality of Apeldoorn between 1861 and
1963 are mentioned, with their profession and place of residence.
Also mentioned are institutions and associations and the composition of
their governing boards. There are also advertisements of companies.
The CDs created much interest and the local newspapers and television
all made articles about the "Ericas".
After the publication on CD of the Erica's, Apeldoorn gets a new series
of CD's:
Kroniek van Apeldoorn (Chronicles of Apeldoorn).
BoekopCD are borrowing 4 copies from CODA (formerly Apeldoorn Archives).
These include the history and description of life in Appeldoorn between
1872 and 1899. As well as other sources the newspaper "Apeldoornse
Courant", reports from the city council and memorial books have been
used to create these books. Subjects included are the fire brigade,
trade and industry, the royal family and the palace 't Loo, politics,
town development, markets and social life.
BoekopCD can provide the four publications together for you on one CD
for 9.95
We are now cooperating with the state archives of Noord-Holland!
Scanning of the first books has started. The first CD which is made by
BoekopCD will be about Haarlem.
It contains a series of four books concerning the history of Haarlem
from the earliest time (approx. 10th century) till the end of the 19th
century.
It is not only about politics, but also about social developments,
economy and town planning, and much attention is given to well-known
persons and families from Haarlem.
There is a separate register with family names.
The books have been illustrated with photographs and maps.
From a private individual we received a series of almanacs concerning
the province of Groningen.
The series includes more than 40 books, from the period 1837 till 1928.
The "Groningsche Volksalmanakken" are year books concerning history,
language and literature.
They also give information of public interest, such as calendars, dates
of markets, time tables of mail coaches and ships, mail tariffs and the
opening times of the city gates (of course only in the very old ones) as
well as information concerning museums and libraries.
They further contain short stories and poems concerning the history of
Groningen.
Within the framework of the royal visit to Groningen on April 30th 2004
it is interesting to read it in the almanac of 1893 about the visit of
the queen to Groningen on June 21th 1892.
