Do you get the gift of a FREE CD by helping others?

In the last newsletter we gave some free CDs away.... and here are more.

It looks as though I might make this a simi-regular feature.

I notice that lots of people are helping others by answering queries and

pleas to overcome brick walls in their research.... by using the

valuable information from the Archive CD Books. Not just looking for

ancestors, but answering questions on all sorts of other topics about

the villages and places where our ancestors lived.

Wonderful stuff! This is what the family history mailing lists are all

about. Helping others when they have a problem or a query. And of

course, if you have the right books to hand, then they can be very

useful. But that sort of thing does take up some of your time.

I reckon that should be rewarded. Therefore I have taken just a few at

random that I have seen over the last couple of weeks....

and the following 15 people can write to us at

enquiries@archivecdbooks.org

and claim a free CD of your choice. Any CD currently in production, up

to GBP 25.00 in value. For the full listings of over 1,300 CDs see

CORNWALL RESOURCES LOOKUP MONTH

We did it with tremendous success for Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire

recently.... and for the last month it has been Cornwall's turn. With

immense success!!! 1,600 messages posted during the month! Lots of brick

walls broken down ;-)

A "free for all" on-list lookup thing using all of the Archive CD Books

Cornwall CDs. There are quite a lot of them! Many of you already have

these CDs, and this is the opportunity for:

a. folks to ask for lookups and information from the CD books

b. you to help others from the Archive CD Books CDs that you may own.

The complete list of CD books for Cornwall, and details of the "Lookup

Month" can be seen at the web page at:

http://www.british-genealogy.com/lists/cornwall-month.html

So.... start asking for lookups in any of these...

REPLIES *ON THE MAILING LIST* ARE GOOD!

It lets people see the sort of things that can be found in these

books... and will prompt them to ask their own questions. Replies on

list also lets others know that the answers have been found, which saves

duplicating work!

If you have any of these CDs from Archive CD Books, then *DO* help

others by doing the lookups and finding information for them.

*********************************************************

To coincide with the lookup month there is a special offer for Cornwall

listers who purchase Archive CD Books Cornwall CDs - for ONE MONTH ONLY

** Order any *two* CDs from the *CORNWALL* section of the Archive CD

Books catalogue.... and be charged for just one!

Or order 4, and be charged for 2.

THIS CD OFFER ENDS 9.00am (British Time) 31 January 2004

(The order form will list the full price of two, but as credit cards are

processed manually, you will get the cheapest one of the two free). (The

1861 and 1841 census CDs sets - available now - are included in this

offer, but *not* the other censuses, which are subject to advance orders

being placed)

The full catalogue of CDs can be seen at:

http://www.archivecdbooks.ie/acatalog/sitemap.html

Just scroll down to the Cornwall section.

And finally.... do pass on this message to other relevant mailing lists

and to your friends who have Cornish ancestors. The more people who join

in, the better! And we are sure to break down those brick walls in our

research, and add useful background information on the places our

ancestors lived.

The Cornwall Lookup Month takes place on the Cornwall mailing list at

British-Genealogy.com

To subscribe to the mailing list (you must be a list member to post and

receive messages), see:

http://www.british-genealogy.com/mailman/listinfo/eng-cornwall

More details of the Lookup Month can be seen on the web page at:

http://www.british-genealogy.com/lists/cornwall-month.html

The Cornwall lookup month finishes 31 January 2004. So there is still

time to get in there.

space!

OTHER NEWS SNIPPETS

We have upgraded our on-line catalogue and shopping cart software.

Things look a little different, and a few odd things have been ironed

out. In particular, the incompatibility with some firewalls has been

sorted once and for all. The changes don't look that drastic, but it

involved several hundreds of pounds cost, and a huge amount of time.

<Phew!> and it worked.

Archive CD Books Canada is right on the very verge of going live with

its own web site and on-line catalogue. That will be a tremendous

advantage to those living in Canada, who have been hit in the past with

silly import duties from the UK on our CDs.

We are now at the stage of looking more closely into setting up Archive

CD Books New Zealand. I hope to make a trip over there sometime during

late February or March, and of course to call in on Archive CD Books

Australia in the same trip. I would also be interested in hearing from

anyone in Ireland and South Africa who would be interested in co-

operating in setting up Archive CD Books projects there too.

There are several reviews and articles about us in this month's British

family history magazines. All nicely positive stuff that spreads the

word about the Archive CD Books Project.
