We have been running the Archive CD Books "sponsorship" scheme for almost five years now, since 2000 when the project began, and it has been wonderful to see so much support from people from all over the world.

I have now decided to offer more to our supporters. Nothing has been taken away. Lots more advantages have been added. And to coincide with this change, we have also changed the title to Archive CD Books Project Member.

Basically, there are two levels of membership:

  • Regular Member (renewable annually)
  • Life Member (with additional benefits too)

And there's an upgrade path from Regular Member (and the old type sponsor too) to Life Member, which you can do at any time.

One of the new and exciting extras, is the availability of special Limited Edition CDs and sets for members - personalised with your own name on the cover!

It is possible to upgrade from Regular Member to Life Member at any time. You don't have to wait until the year end. The cost is the same as the difference between the two.

First of all, you don't have to upgrade to Life Member. It is just an option so that you can receive the benefits of membership. If you wish, you can remain on your standard Gold Sponsor level forever if you wish, and receive the same benefits that you always have always had.

When you registered as the old type Gold Sponsor, you paid £25.00. Therefore the upgrade to Life Member is the difference in price. £35.00. It works exactly in the same way as upgrading from Regular Member to Life Member as above (including the free CD, and shipping charge on the free CD).

Is there a time limit on being able to upgrade?
No. You can do it now, in a month's time, a year's time, or at any time in the future.

Some people gained Gold Sponsorship status in the past because they lent their books to the  Archive CD Books Project for scanning and reproduction on CD, so that others could have copies. Those people will be automatically upgraded to Life member.  You don't have to do anything - we know who you are - of course!

Upgrade from the old type Platinum Sponsor to Life Member

This is free and automatic. You don't have to do anything at all. Your login ID and password will remain the same.

We discontinued new registrations to the Platinum Sponsorship quite some time ago now. When you registered as a Platinum Sponsor (no matter how long ago), you paid £50.00. We reckon that's close enough to the £60 Life Membership to simply upgrade you automatically.

You will now receive all the benefits of Life Membership, including the upgraded 20% discount instead of your previous 15% discount.

No, we don't mean your actual age ;-)

In the very, very early days of Archive CD Books, we had another type of sponsorship, costing £40 (or whatever amount you donated, some people sent more.)

We will upgrade you to Life Membership. This is free and automatic. You don't have to do anything at all. Your login ID and password to the on-line catalogue will remain the same.

You will now receive all the benefits of Life Membership, including the upgraded 20% discount instead of your previous 15% discount.

Above: The front cover of the first in the Limited Edition series. A representation of a half bound leather book, with hand made marbled paper covered boards. This marbled paper was actually scanned from one of the real books in the collection, and indeed really is a one-off hand made paper.

Above: The cover of the Kelly's and Post Office directories Limited  Editions. The original books were red grained cloth with an embossed pattern, together with a gold crest, which shows off perfectly - because we scanned the cover of one of the original books! All we have done is add the title in gold lettering, together with the "Limited Edition" ribbon, which will be a feature of the series.

All Member Limited Edition CDs are personalised with your own name on the cover.

These are really special CDs and sets.

They have a totally different style of packaging from the run of the mill jewel cases. Something very special, attractive and "collectable". The case looks like a book. The Kelly's and Post Office directories will have a facsimile reproduction of a red Kelly's book with the gold crest, and the others will look like a half leather bound book with marbled boards and gold lettering. (Only pretend of course - but they will look really good on the shelf).

Member Limited Edition CDs and sets will be made available several times a year to Regular Members and Life Members only, at a fixed price (No additional discount). (There may be a cheaper price for Life Members on some Limited Editions).

Member Limited Edition CDs and sets will not be repeated.

The first of the Member Limited Edition CDs are:

  • A set of 9 county directories of 1839 covering counties west of London to the South-West.
    (None of these have yet been released as single CDs, but they will be released as standard singles at £9.79 each at the same time too).

  • A set of the very first Post Office county directories for Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland - 1849
    Published by Kelly's.

    (plus VAT on sales within the EU- tax free overseas)

  • A set of CDs containing the The Vistations series
    The equivalent of 58 (yes, fifty eight!) currently produced CDs
    (some of which contain more than one volume). They are all from the same series, and on the same topic, forming a full and comprehensive library of resources. - 1500s and 1600s period pedigrees.
    This special set will be available only to Life Members, at £30.00
    (plus VAT on sales within the EU - tax free overseas)
    .
  • A set of CDs of (Kelly's) Post Office Directories of the Six Home Counties 1851
    Essex, Surrey, Sussex, Middlesex, Kent and Hertfordshire.
    Published by Kelly's
    This set will be available to all Members at £25.00
